Typically an EGR cooler delete will lower your EGT about 40°F or so. That is good news for your turbo. I have deleted my EGR cooler,my EGR valve still sits where it is supposed to be. There is a SLIGHT chance that when you delete your EGR, you will NOT get a code. I will bety you that you will.

You could do a clean EGR delete using parts from one of those. Could possibly even use the PCM from one if yours is OBD1 to kill the check engine light, though i'm not positive on this.
