An american Fender is in my opinion made better than a mexican Fender in every way. A squier however is not that far off from a mexican bass. Wood has grade of quality. An alder body with maple neck on a Mexi J does not sound the same as a USA with same wood. The hardware is better, better frets,nut, truss rod, tuners and pickups.

Fender Vintera Series. The Vintera series on the other hand, is a direct throwback to the 50s, 60s and 70s. I've seen so many CIJ/MIJ '70s Jazz Basses offered second hand in the US that I hardly doubt all these instruments were privately imported into the US.
